Robert E. Howard and Red Nails
Red Nails, on the surface, is exactly what one would expect and desire from a Weird Tales pulp tale, especially a Robert E. Howard Weird Tales pulp tale! A rip-snortin' rollercoaster ride of sex, violence, and sorcery, with, dare I say, a knowing wink of "you'll get a kick outta this!"
Well, we certainly do get all those goodies. But, as we peel back the onionlike surface appeal of this gem of a story and do a little homework on the side, each progressive layer of discovery reveals that good old Two- Gun Bob invested a tad more of himself than one would initially suspect. In other words, this ain't one off the wrist!

Imagination is a hell of a ticket. It will just about take you anywhere you'd wish to go, and Howard had it in spades, with his stories involving heroic fantasy, high-seas adventure, interplanetary romance, spicy detective yarns, tales of yellow peril, boxing, history, and much more. For my money, it's top shelf, right down the line! I'm sure if you cut him a check, he'd "spin you a yarn," as he'd like to say, that would ...................keep you riveted and turning, right through to the last page . . . .........................Yup, he really was that good!
